DSS Sets Record for Second Year in Row for Child Support Collections
01.29.10 - The Louisiana Department of Social Services (DSS) set a record for the second year in a row when it comes to collecting child support payments -- more than $354 million for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2009, which is up from more than $346 million collected in FFY 2008.

DSS Issues Emergency Rules to Ensure Safety of Children
12.30.09 - As part of its continued efforts to ensure the safety of children, the Louisiana Department of Social Services (DSS) announced that a set of emergency rules allowing the State Central Registry to be used to screen employees and potential employees of the agency and DSS-licensed facilities will go into effect on January 1, 2010. The State Central Registry is a database maintained by DSS of all investigations of child abuse and neglect.

DSS Plans to Open Child Care Assistance Program to Military Child Care Centers
12.03.09 - The Louisiana Department of Social Services (DSS) is moving to help the state's low-income military families afford child care on military bases located in the state. The agency has issued a Notice of Intent to create a new Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) provider type, Class M, that would allow child care centers licensed by the Department of Defense (DOD) to become eligible for CCAP funding, along with all eligible children who attend that center.
