Louisiana Job Fairs 2009
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Louisiana Job Fairs 2009 is just one of several events scheduled to celebrate the abilities of citizens with disabilities.
About the Louisiana Job Fairs 2009Louisiana Job Fairs 2009 are designed to help bridge the needs of the business community with the employment needs of citizens with disabilities who are job-ready and looking for work.
LRS is blending resources with multiple agencies to host the statewide job fairs, which are FREE to both employers and job seekers. Citizens with disabilities are encouraged to utilize this opportunity to join Louisiana’s workforce. Employers looking to create a diverse workforce are encouraged to register.
The fairs will include booths sponsored by community partners that provide resources and services to individuals with disabilities. This year, information sessions and seminars will include Social Security counseling from the Louisiana Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (La-WIPA) Coalition.

- Job Accommodation Network (JAN) - An online employment guide to help individuals with disabilities find a job that meets their needs and interests. A service of the United States Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy.
- Sample Job Application - This sample application includes basic information most employers require of potential employees.
- Sample Resume - This sample resume includes detailed information that employers look for when seeking a potential employee.
- Louisiana Department of Civil Service -The central personnel agency for the state of Louisiana. Their mission is to provide human resource services and programs that enable state government to attract, develop and retain a productive and diverse workforce that excels in delivering quality services to the citizens of Louisiana.
- Louisiana Workforce Commission - A one-stop site for workers and businesses in the state of Louisiana. Visitors can find a job, discover career options or find employees.

| What are the Louisiana Job Fairs 2009? These statewide job fairs are designed to give job-ready persons with disabilities access to potential employers in one location. Where are the job fairs held? The job fairs are held in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Houma, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, New Orleans, the Northshore and Shreveport. Who can attend the job fairs? Anyone can attend the job fairs. They are open to the public, but businesses know that persons with disabilities who are job-ready will be attending and looking for employment opportunities. Who puts on the job fairs? The job fairs are coordinated by LRS and sponsored by the Medicaid Purchase Plan. This year’s partner agencies include the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Governor’s Office of Disability Affairs, Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities, Louisiana Work Incentives Planning and Assistance Coalition, Louisiana Mental Health System, Advocacy Center, Mental Health America of Louisiana, Greater Baton Rouge Society for Human Resource Management, Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council and local Chambers of Commerce. Have you ever put on the job fairs before? Yes, this is the sixth year of these job fairs. In the past five years, the fairs have connected more than 7,200 job seekers with 894 businesses statewide. |
Why host these job fairs? People with disabilities are Louisiana’s largest minority population and also the state’s largest number of under-employed. The American Community Survey shows that Louisiana is home to almost 400,000 people with disabilities who are working age. Studies show that 275,000 of these adults with disabilities are underemployed but want to work. What do I need to do as a potential job seeker?
