DSNAP Approved for 23 Parishes Affected by Winter Storms

Louisiana DCFS received federal approval to begin virtual Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) operations in 23 parishes severely affected by the winter storms that occurred Feb. 15-18, 2021. The application process will run in two phases between Monday, April 5, and Saturday, April 17, 2021, and will follow an alphabet schedule according to applicants’ last names.

DCFS received federal approval to begin virtual Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) operations in 6 parishes to provide additional food aid to families affected by Hurricane Zeta. The application process will run in a single phase from Monday, Feb. 1, to Sunday, Feb. 7.
DSNAP Approved for Allen, Iberia Parishes Due to Hurricane Delta

01.15.2021 - DCFS received approval Thursday, Jan. 14, to begin virtual DSNAP operations for Allen and Iberia parishes due to damages sustained from Hurricane Delta. The application window will be open from Tuesday, Jan. 19, through Friday, Jan. 22.
SNAP Benefits Increasing Temporarily Due to COVID, Starting Jan. 8

01.07.2021 - SNAP recipients will see an increase in their benefits for the first six months of 2021, following passage of the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act. The legislation may also make more Louisianans eligible for SNAP by excluding federal unemployment benefits and stimulus checks from consideration as income and by expanding student eligibility.

Federal Cost of Living Adjustment Will Affect SNAP and Other Benefits Received Through DCFS

12.21.2020 - A federal cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to Social Security and veterans benefits for 2021 will result in decreases to some Louisiana residents' Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, also known as food stamps, as well as benefits through the Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP).
SNAP Benefits Schedule Is Changing

12.2.2020 - DCFS is beginning a three-month process of transitioning its SNAP benefits schedule to distribute benefits more evenly throughout each month. The Department also received approval to issue supplemental SNAP benefits for December.
SNAP Updates

DCFS has received federal approval to issue supplemental SNAP benefits for April 2021. Families who are receiving SNAP for April, but who don't already receive the maximum allotment for their household size, will receive a supplement to bring them to the max. For current SNAP recipients, the supplemental allotments are scheduled to be loaded onto EBT cards on Friday, April 9.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the state’s 22nd Annual Adoption Celebration – like many of this year’s adoption ceremonies – was held virtually via Zoom.
